Answers to some popular Passport BMW Parts Questions....
What are your Store Hours?
We're available 8:00am-6:30pm PST Monday thru Friday, and 8:00am-3:00pm Saturday. There is also an automated phone system active 24 hours a day. Leave your name and number and a brief description of how we can help you, and we'll return your call.
Some sites do not take phone calls. They say it enables them to keep their prices low. I have to e-mail them with questions, and then it takes 2-3 days to get an answer. What is your Phone Policy?
This is one of the major differences between us and some of the other parts sites. We do not make you choose between customer service and price. We realize that sometimes you need answers right away. Feel free to call us anytime (at the numbers listed below), and we'll be happy to talk with you. Whether you e-mail us or phone us, you will always pay the same low price and receive the same great service.
What is a "VIN#" and where do I find it?
VIN is short for "Vehicle Identification Number". It is generally 17 digits long and can be found on a metal plate on the top of the dash pad on the drivers side of the vehicle, visible from the outside of the vehicle through the windshield. It is also found on your Vehicle Title, Registration and Insurance Documentation.
Why do you need my Vin#?
The Vin# is necessary in identifying the correct parts for a particular vehicle. With the Vin#, we can identify each and every Production Option for all vehicles produced beginning with the 1990 model year.
Do you sell genuine OEM parts?
All parts are guaranteed to be new and factory original. These are the same parts you would purchase from the dealer.
Do you have my part in stock?
In addition to our on-hand inventory, we work with a network of hundreds of parts warehouses across the country enabling us to fill and ship orders within 24 hours. In the unlikely event that a part has been placed on backorder or discontinued, we will do our best to find one for you as quickly as possible.
Can I add to my order after it has been placed?
Yes, you can add to an order up until the time it is shipped and no longer in our possession.
Can I cancel an order after it has been placed?
Yes, you can cancel any order or part of any order up until the time it is shipped and no longer in our possession.
How long before my order ships?
In stock orders ship within 24 hours.
Do you ship outside the United States?
No, at this time we only ship within the United States.
Which credit cards do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
What method of shipping do you use?
Our preferred method of shipping is UPS Ground. They give excellent service, are extremely reliable and very reasonable priced.
What if I need my part faster?
Virtually any method of shipment is available upon request. Just tell us your needs and we will try to accommodate them. We can ship parts via Next Day Air up until 3PM PST.
What is your return policy?
We understand that sometimes, for whatever reason, the part you needed yesterday, is no longer needed today. So for that reason, WE TAKE BACK ANYTHING WE SELL. We do not set time limits, nor do we charge restocking fees. We will even arrange return freight for you. Just pack the part up in it's original package and we'll send someone for it. Return shipping charges will be deducted from your refund.
We just ask for a couple of courtesies. We can not take back used, installed or tried parts. Parts must be resaleable and in their original packaging. You do not need a return authorization, but we would like to be informed via e-mail, phone or whatever so that we can expect the part and credit the correct account in a timely manner when it gets here. Please include a copy of your invoice with the return. We do reserve the right to refuse and return any parts that we find to have been installed, are used, or do not meet the above return criteria.
What did we leave out?
As hard as we've tried to cover everything, I'm sure there is plenty we've left out. If there is something you need and don't see it here, just ask. We're always just a click away. We look forward to hearing from you.
First, you can find a factory OEM part by either going through a dealer or contacting the manufacturer directly. Factory parts are built by the OEM manufacturer to the exact same specifications as the existing parts. New OEM components are generally the most expensive option but often yield the best fit, durability and overall quality. If you own your vehicle and are thinking of reselling, documenting repairs using factory parts can increase the resale value of the vehicle.
Second, you can find a new aftermarket part from a variety of parts dealers online and at shops around the country. Aftermarket parts are often exact replicas of OEM parts but are built by companies not associated with the primary auto manufacturer. While aftermarket pieces are less expensive than their OEM counterparts, they also may suffer in terms of quality, fit and finish. Aftermarket parts are great to get a car back up to speed if the budget is an issue and fit/quality do not matter. However, some aftermarket companies produce pieces that are of exceptional quality.
Third, you can find a used factory (or maybe even a used aftermarket) part at a salvage yard or from a private seller. Good used factory parts are a great way to save money and get an OEM specified piece at the same time. Obviously, used parts are subject to wear and are highly variable in their quality and usability.
To determine the best method of replacing a part, check with you dealer, owners of similar vehicles and on the Internet to determine what option makes sense. You know the new OEM part will work, so read online testimonials to see if aftermarket replacements are worth the cost. You can also gain insight that's helpful in a used search, learning the common defects/attributes of a part before buying it yourself.
topMany suppliers offer both OEM and aftermarket parts for a broad range of vehicles. Some specialty parts may not be produced in the aftermarket if demand does not warrant investment. Tracking down these obscure pieces may require consulting a parts specialist. Some dealers have caches of unused factory parts, often called New Old Stock (NOS) or New Old Replacement Stock (NORS). These command high prices especially when out of production.
topLike replacement parts, some add-on accessories are factory authorized while others are produced in the aftermarket. Depending on the popularity of a vehicle, a variety of special components exist to modify it. Engine enhancements, body kits, interior pieces, electronics, exhaust systems, wheels and tires are among the many elements that contribute to customization.
