Texting while driving is becoming an increasingly present cause of many accidents on the road today Many drivers have admitted to doing it once or twice, but what's more shocking is just who is doing it. While there is no doubt that texting while driving is a problem amongst teenagers, as it turns out, more adults are doing it. German automaker BMW indicates, "...almost half of all adults admit to texting while driving, compared to only 34% of teens."1
We here at Passport BMW were shocked to learn of these statistics, and truly hope that they decrease, rather than continuing to increase. In noticing that texting while driving is becoming an even bigger threat than drunk driving, BMW has taken a firm stance against the act of doing so. While it is unlikely that we'll seen any technological efforts taken to impair people from using their cell phone to text while driving, it is good to know that BMW as a company does not support such a reckless habit.
As such, BMW boldly states on their website, "WHEN THE ENGINE STARTS THE TEXTING STOPS."1 They've also gone ahead and posted some ways to avoid getting the urge to text while behind the wheel. They include:
1. Turning off you phone before getting in the car.2. Placing your phone somewhere in the car where it is out of sight. That way, even if you are tempted to use your phone, it will be inaccessible
3. When taking longer trips, tell a little white lie and say that you'll simply have no service for the duration, in order to avoid an onslaught of unnecessary calls and texts while driving.
4. And finally, be sure to take advantage of the incredible technology that is making it SAFE to use your phone behind the wheel, such as text-to-speech capabilities, Bluetooth, MyInfo, and others.
You can learn more about the incredible technology that is found in the new BMW models that we carry here at 4730 Auth Place Marlow Heights, MD 20746 simply by browsing our online inventory and showroom pages.
