Those of you who frequent the Passport BMW blog may recall our previous report, which dispelled rumors of the BMW 3 Series Touring Wagon being discontinued. We briefly touched upon the upgrades that the 3 Series would be seeing as a whole, then asked that you stay tuned for more. Those of you who heeded our message are now in for a treat, as we have more details on the highly-anticipated BMW 3 Series for you!

In its 2012 model year, the BMW 3 Series, which is comprised of eight models, include BMW 3 Series Sedan, BMW ActiveHybrid 3, BMW 3 Series Touring wagon, BMW 3 Series Coupe, BMW 3 Series Convertible, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M3 Coupe and BMW M3 Convertible, is set to snag a few features from its 1 Series and 5 Series siblings. These include eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start technology, electric assisted steering, four selectable driving modes and multi-function screen operated by the iDrive console knob.

Other improvements that the 3 Series will be gaining include optional xDrive all-wheel drive, an available hybrid variant, all-new personalization program, and a color HUD. Overall, these additions should equate to the BMW 3 Series models gaining a more dynamic stance, refined interior look, and the kind of performance the BMW fans truly deserve. If it wasn't already clear that BMW is taking aim at the likes of the A4 and the C-Class.

Currently, the all new BMW 3 Series is set to begin arriving at 4730 Auth Place Marlow Heights, MD 20746 next year. Though, we should not that the various models in the 3 Series (there are eight after all) are all set to start arriving at different points. But, seeing as how this redesigned has been in the works for a full two years now, we don't think a little more waiting will hurt anyone.
